How can I create funk drum beats to jam bass to?

To enhance my personal jamming experience I downloaded a drum machine software to jam funk bass over. Though I've listened and played tons of funk, I apparently have not picked up on funk drumming. Anyone have any suggestions to make my drum beats funkier?

Browse the online database for the Monkey Machine, odds are you'll be able to get some insight into the problem by looking at what other people are doing. To browse, start the application then select 'Download Beat' from the file menu.

But that's just me. I learn best when I examine someone else's work and then adapt it to myself, other people might suggest more structured methods.

Zoom effects pedals come with a bunch of drum loops too, if you just want to jam that might be an option.
