How to dampen the E string after slapping it

Sign in to disble this ad
http://www.slapit.com/example.html

Just been going through these slap riff examples but am getting hung up on one simple thing: how to stop the E string ringing for more than a semiquaver after slapping it.

I can do it with a left hand dead note but in exercise 42 above the first E is followed by a popped high D so I can't use my left hand do deaden the E.

Is it about using the palm of my right hand?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks!

i just tried that line to see what i would do, and it turns out i use the heel of my hand (almost the wrist but not quite).

No all techniques allow the use of the right hand palm, but that's what I use. It rests on the B and E strings nearly all the time unless I actually want a note from those strings.

Additionally, I close my left hand fingers lightly over most strings when not playing them, and frequently stop notes on the E string with a "ghost tap" of the left hand (a quiet percussive end to the slapped note).

Have this Book on Order

Cool, I just ordered that book Wednesday night along with a Fingerstyle Funk book from Berklee Press. Looking forward to learning some slap for real.
