Hi all,

I was just wondering what the bassist in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i67OnKJSRuM does to get that sound at 2:53?

(My apologies if this is the wrong forum to post this!)

Thanks!

Sounds like a pinch harmonic...No idea how to do them on bass.

Thanks for sharing that.

slide harmonic? I think. Not sure how to do on a fretted bass, but real easy on a fretless.

Check this out, after you get this under your fingers you can bend it or do whatever you want with it.
Have Fun

P.S.
Also check out Steve Bailey for this stuff too

Spot on. It's an artificial or "false" harmonic.

The way they are played is by using, usually the thumb over the harmonic node while "playing" the string with the finger on the right hand. You release the thumb momentarily after you "play" the string. You can use the left hand for playing notes on the fretboard.

This is the same way that guitarists play artificial harmonics on guitar with the obvious technical differences involved in using a pick.
