how do i get that sound where you can hear like the string being pulled up in stuff. Two examples that i can think of right off the top of my head is hysteria(really dominate at the very beginning right before the guitar comes in.) and Bullet in the Head on the break down.

I don't know either of those bands, but I think the sound you're looking for is just using your finger to pull (pluck) up hard on the string. You'll get the sound of the string being plucked and the sound of it slapping back down.

turn the treble up on your bass and adjust the frequency of your amp(if you can) until you find the sound that you're looking for.

What you're looking for is a really hard attack. For hysteria, really hammer down on the strings - don't pop them. Just dig in.

On bullet in the head, timmy c grew his fingernails out really long so that he could get that bright sound.
