How do you hold heavy/long bass like Cirrus?

I know there's a similar thread, but this one I think is more specific.

I have six string Bubinga version, I think it's the heaviest one..
In sitting position, I noticed that it's comfy to put the bass on my lap. I need to practice a lot, and holding the bass on my shoulder while sitting is not very pleasant for the lower back. However, when resting on my lap, the bass doesn't keep the balance and tends to fall to the side of the neck. I experimented with various positions and found that putting a saxophone-like strap (around my neck) on the single holder solves that problem. In this kind of position, Cirrus feels like a short scale bass, and you don't need to stretch your hand in order to play on 1-5 frets (I like to use open strings). I noticed that its very comfortable for playing walking bass lines. However, its hard to reach the notes above 15 fret.

In standing position, the bass doesn't feel comfy on my leather strap (even though it is with padding).

How do you hold your Cirruses or other >=35' scale heavy sixers?

I play a corvette six string, it also has a bubinga body so I understand how heavy that wood can be. Standing I have my bass high up, chest/mid body level, I find that helps support a lot of the weight and it gives me easy access to the high end.. sitting I usually have it in a classical guitar like position, this puts it in the same position on my body as it is when I stand, so I'm use to the same position whether I'm standing or sitting. As for my strap, I was having a lot of problems with shoulder/back pains, so I had to find a very wide very padded strap. I still think I need an even thicker strap because over long periods of time I'll still get pain.
