How do you play Good times by chic??

Sign in to disble this ad
Do you alternate fingers of the right hand???
Do you play the g with open string or in the fifgt fret of the D string?? When playing open g you mute then with the other finger of the right hand or with your palm?
Thanks, it is a repetitive but difficult bass line to play it well

We used to play this song. I alternate. Sometimes play the open G, sometimes not and add a little riff now and then. But I think FAR more important than that is the groove. You HAVE to have the groove - if not, don't do this song!

If you practise each part of that line separetly you can get a better feel of the line, and the groove begin to appear, you need to get confotable with it. And then nail it, and don`t think about it.

Here's a video of Guy Pratt showing off his stack knob Jazz in which he plays a few old disco tunes including Good Times:

YouTube - Guy Pratt's great disco bass lines

Fingerstyle Funk is all in the feeling... Let it flow... Octave string crossings can be a bit tricky but lot's of fun and worth the effort.

Here's another fun one I figured out while bored lately:

YouTube - Zantac: Spicy

Not very hard. It looks a lot like a E major scale when you play it. I guess E Dorian is most accurate.
