Ok fellow bassist,How do you guys and gals pull yourself out of the rut?
Do you find new material to learn?,try some country songs
or some rock or jazz or anything you dont play much of,or just somthing different to get mojo back..
I know all muscians go thru this kind of thing, there are not much new stuff( music or bands) that turns me on anymore.
So this post is about getting out of the rut
I know everyone goes thru it sooner or later,so what is your way of getting back your groove.....

Not sure what you're situation is, but a good way to get out of a rut is to start answering some "Bass Player Wanted" ads.

I've been in somewhat of a rut since the cover band I play keys in was off all summer, my parody project band that I play bass in has been inconsistent and recording sessions have dried up a bit...so I answered a bunch of CL ads and found another gig.

If you talking about shedding, I'm only 3 years in playing bass so I haven't hit a rut yet....I have plenty to learn still...

pick a song you've always wanted to learn and go for it. I started "Portrait of Tracy" this weekend. its slow going, so far i can play the first 20 seconds or so of the song, but now that I see its actually possible I feel much better about my playing and myself and feel inspired to play more a lot more.
