How Fast Can You Play?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm just curious how fast everyone can play. I've been only playing a bass with Jamerson-high action for about 6 months now, and I can finally play 16th notes consecutively. I went to Guitar Center, and started playing on their low-action Fenders, and I found I can play 32nd notes consecutively. 64th notes when I do tremolo plucking. I had no idea, because I've always liked how high-action feels, but now I definatley have to put low-action on my Telejazz bass. I play with two-fingers. This is partly because I can sweep, I suppose. Still working on getting faster.

If I play with a pick then I can play insanely fast ... I have been working for a while to play just as fast fingerstyle.

the fastest i've ever gone in a 'shred competition' with a guitarist cleanly
(just playing scales),
is 32 notes at 152.

Saying you can play 32nd notes or 64th notes means nothing, unless you give the BPM or Tempo.

That being said, I mainly use Legato or Tapping for speed.

I can play 128th notes. If you don't believe me, I can upload a clip of myself playing one.

I can play Happy Birthday To You in 40bpm, but never had to use this crazy speed in a real gig.

Yep. It sounds like a bunch of wankery. Too much emphasis on speed, nothing said about accuracy.
