Don't try to mute the slap where there are harmonics. You can mute the string in other places.

This may take some practice.

Use more than one finger to mute. When I slap, every left hand finger that is not fretting a note is muting. And I pop mostly with my ring finger. So my index and middle finger are helping with muting too.

If you mute a string in two or more places, harmonics will not ring out.

Yea, also whenever possible try to slide up the neck for mutes, u get a way sharper sound. not too easy on fast slap songs tho
