You can do it whatever way you want- you can use your thumb and index, index and middle, use one finger in a downward strum or your thumb or fingernails in an upward strum, etc. etc. There's a lot of way to do it- figure out which has the sound you like best (ie strumming sounds different than playing two notes at the exact same time by plucking with two fingers).
