| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: san francisco, california | | | it also depends on where you get the string. as i've been playing and pushing myself to go faster and faster, i've learned that you don't need to 'grab' the string with your finger to pop it, you only need enough to pull it up and let it pop back down. so with a good grip and the right angle, i can actually get my finger down on the side of the string and pull it up, which allows me to go a LOT faster. |

I'm not sure I can picture what you're saying, though - I mean geometrically-speaking.
Could you elaborate on the "...finger down on the side of the string and pull it up" part?

the tip of my finger hits the side of the string and pulls it up and away from me. it's kinda like finger plucking but i grab it from the side to make it bounce harder and give the pop. |

I've tried all kinds of sizes, but the only strings to give me the thick full sound I wanted out of a slap start at .105 for the E. thinner's a lot easier to slap on, but then whenever i want to get a thick deep note I realise I can't get it with the strings I have |
