How is that Randy Jackson DVD?

Sign in to disble this ad
As a joke for my kids, who love watching AI, I'd like to get this DVD:

http://cgi.ebay.com/RANDY-JACKSON-MA...QQcmdZViewItem

I know RJ is an awesome bassist, on top of being that idiotic judge on that stupid TV show (I guess the pay is not idiotic), but is that DVD any good?

Just wondering.

I love the Grace Jones hairdo, by the way.

I had no idea he was a bassist. Now I'm very curious to hear him.

He's a pretty big studio bassist, you've probably heard his playing somewhere. He was in Journey on the Raised on Radio album, and the tour. He's played on a lot of pop stuff, like some of Madonna's Like a Prayer. He's done a bunch of other stuff, not sure of all of it.

I know about his bass skills and what he's done.

I was wondering about his DVD...

Edit: oops sorry I did not see you were answering someone else.

The DVD is pretty decent, RJ takes the groove approach. Jeff Berlin wouldn't care for it tho It's more practical than technical and Randy is entertaining throughout.

In my favorite part he addresses playing with drummers who tend to play ahead of ar behind the beat. "Let's say you're playing with a drummer and he's been doin'.... let's just say he's playing ahead of the beat."

Wow currently the DVD is up to $51 .... I am glad I have Netflix.

I suppose his AI popularity is helping.

Yeah, he sure can play the bass. Also it seems his weird antics were part of a package people liked about him, but he just doesn't know when to stop.

On a side note: I watched a little bit of American Idol and there is absolutely not one really good singer in that bunch. Do they purposely select mediocre singers???

Wow. All of a sudden I like Randy Jackson. LOL.

The more I think about it the more he does seem like a bassist. Surprised I never made that connection before.

Not sure where the $51 comes from, but the video is currently in print and can be purchased from a variety of sources (MF, amazon, etc.) for $24.95 (retail price).

As good as he is, and as good as the ROR stuff sounded live, I've always HATED his playing on the pre-ROR tunes. I can't quite put my finger on what it was (besides Ross not playing), but it just doesn't sound right.

I do like his "good cop" role on AI though.

I have that buried around here on VHS somewhere, definitely worth a Netflix rental for the jamming with Vinnie Colaiuta.

If you want to show him to your kids you can also get the Journey Greatest hits DVD. They'll love the 2 tunes where RJ shows up in his leather outfit and Bart Simpson hair and plays like crazy.

Randy Jackson was also Maria Caries bassist and musical director for many years.
