Hungry Like the Wolf- technique

My band has decided to do this song and I have started working on learning it. I have a skill deficency...I have never put any time into slapping/popping...never had any need to. Well, Taylor is using that technique in this song (popping for sure...not sure if he is slapping on the E). Does anyone have any experience with this song and if so...what technique to you use to play it. I have been playing it thumbstyle and trying to pop the octave but it is killing my wrist on my fretting hand...any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
FC

Use your fingers and just pop the strings. Works just as well for that song.

The way I play it is: for the chorus I use my fingers for the root note and pop the octave.

Its a bit tricky to get at first as you need a lot of accuracy but keep practicing and you'll get it.

The easiest option would be to slap and pop the whole chorus but I prefer using my fingers rather than slapping.
