I ALWAYS have cold hands... (help?)

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys!

for whatever reason, be it poor circulation or whatever, I almost always have really cold, stiff hands, which makes playing bass REALLY hard.

what quick, do anywhere (as in, I don't need a sink w/ hot water to do them) remedies do you have?

I usually put my hands in my armpits or on my neck to try and warm them up a bit, but this only ever helps for about 10 seconds before they're cold and clammy again.

this is a really annoying problem, and I value any help you can give me.

are there any warm gloves that wouldn't impair finger dexterity?

Ehm, heat packs?

Try swinging your arms around so all the blood goes to your hands, that might help...

Go see a doctor. Sounds like you *might* have restricted blood flow because of circulation issues.

If you smoke .... don't, it will constrict your blood flow.

Get your blood pumping, dance, exercise, jump around, clap your hands, whatever you can do in the situation without acting strange to elevate your heart rate. Not to the point of exhaustion, but enough that you are popping a little sweat.

Do they stay cold even after some intense playing? I have cold hands but once i get my hands busy they warm up in no time. If they stay cold even after using your hands alot (playing bass...) it might indeed be circulation issues.

Exersizing your arms or doing cardio stuff helps.

get some baoding balls. I think they work. You can google it and get em at Chinatown haha. It's those balls you rotate in your hand and it's supposed to stimulate your wrists and circulation to them. They work for me.

+1 for gloves and jumping around.

+2 for going to see a doctor and maybe even a certified hand specialist

I have the same problem, especially now its winter some of the bars I play are pretty cold inside. I was considering maybe getting those "click n heat" bags that hunters use.

You could try wearing sweatbands while playing. A friend of mine wore one on his left wrist during a jam session, and his right hand was a whole lot colder than his left hand.

AFAIK it warms the blood heading out to your hands.

thanks for your suggestions, guys.

my hands do eventually warm up during gigs, but it usually takes over 15 minutes.

I'll try doing some jumping jacks or something next time I play, and see how it works.

google these two things and see if they fit at all:

Raynaud's Syndrome

Thoracic outlet syndrome

Otherwise you're like a lot of us and just have cold hands sometimes!

I suffer from cold hands and usually after I get my circulation moving it's not too much of a problem. I use therapeutic support gloves which are fingerless and have kind of like a nylon/spandex material around the wrist. Also, I've found that wristbands work for me as well.
