As of lately I feel like I have plateau'd and need to work on new stuff. I have been digging into some stuff I have never tried. I learned "I want you back" this week and now I am totally digging the motown bass stuff. I have been reading a lot and am feeling very inspired. Does anyone have any other suggestions that are "must know" songs to learn as a bass player? I have been working a lot on funk stuff and r&b. I just learned superstition, play that funky music, and brickhouse. A buddy of mine that is a great player suggested those. More ideas please! |

It has two CD's of famous bass players playing Jamerson lines, and all the transcriptions written out. You can also dial out the bass and play along with the musical track. Truly a great learning tool, his bass parts range from easy to really difficult, and are always freakin cool! I have all my students get this book, no matter how good they think they are-it is the groove bible as far as I am concerned. |

Don't rely on "Songs that every bassist should know"
IF you find yourself listening to any song, just learn it!

| | | For a great Jamerson one-two punch, check out God is Love and Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) which are tracks 5 and 6 on Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" album.
Look how inspired this dude is playing God is Love, puts a smile on my face ;-)
