So, I started bass seriously a few months ago. Lessons are going fine and all, but my real problem I've always noticed in the back of my mind, but never acknowledged was my left hand technique is terrible. It's always hurting after a while. I figured I'd get used to it.

Anyway, I just got a G&L SB-2 Tribute today, and when I put my old strap on it and slung it on, I started playing it a bit. I loved the way it sounded, and for some reason I just felt pretty damn good and said, "let me mess around a bit and see if I can make my technique more comfortable." 30 seconds later, after shifting my bass so that the headstock is pointing outward at about a 65 - 70 degree angle and the body resting against my side, I ran through a few scales and realized that I felt comfortable as hell!

Now, an hour and a half later, I still feeling like practicing the bassline my teacher gave me for next week, without any pains in my left arm. To end my story, I know I haven't seen many people play this way, but I sure as hell am 100% comfortable holding my bass like this. And this SB-2 now has a special place in my heart, and I want another one. It feels great, and I felt like I had to tell you TBers. Feel free to laugh now, lol.

To me bass is a physical instrument, not liek a kit, but still physical. As long as you maintain good hand position - DO IT!
