How do I fix this? Just concentrate on fingering lightly?

Wow, funny thread. Anyway, try turning the volume on you amp up, it helps because you won't have to play as hard to hear yourself.

Do you not like the sound you get when you play "too hard"?

i've got a ashdown mag 300, ashdown abm 4x10, and ashdown abm x15. and when I turn it up pretty loud and dig in like I always do I get some farting and I'm afraid to destroy my speakers.

Raise your action or adjust your technique I'd say.

When I used a MAG for a while, I would set the Gain pretty low on it, and control the volume from the Master.... that is most likely your problem.

Are you talking about plucking or fretting? If you think you're plucking too hard, you probably are. You're fretting too hard whether you know it or not.

Yeah... "raise your action" that's what you need when you finger too hard.

Actually, which finger are you talking about?

my right hand....not slapping or popping just plucking..i've adjusted my truss rod according to that gary website to where I have .3mm between the top of the 8th fret and the string while both ends of the neck are pressed down. Now it doesn't make a rattle but the action feels high. Should I just leave it or try to bring the action down with the bridge?

I would think that higher action requires you to fret harder which in turn drives you to pluck harder...
Makes sense? Try this:
Close your fretting hand lightly and with your picking hand, alternate your fingers as you would playing your Bass.
Now gradually increase your grip in the fretting hand and you'll notice that some of the tension is getting also applied to your plucking hand --Unless you have fantastic independance-- ...Tough to be tense on one side of your body and relaxed on the other!
So I would lower the action, and increase the volume of my amp like it's been recommended. That's what you got that amp for anyways.
And playing light will improve your touch and dynamic range.

Keep playing, fingers will learn it the right way on their own.
