Ok i have no idea why but with both a pick and fingerstyle i can play really fast, only trouble is, it's relatively pointless as my left hand can never keep up, any suggestions?

Forget speed, start slow and then build speed.

Run scales in all twelve keys, and slowly increase speed. If you have a metronome you can measure the speed increases better. Start really slow, boringly slow and then increase 10 BPM every time you feel comfortable, and start over when you make a mistake.

Hope that helps.

Yes, start slowly. This will help you concentrate on the technique more and help you build up the dexterity in your hand(s) as well as hone in your fingers accuracy as to where the fret it. Remember, if you cant play it slow, you cant play it fast either.
