Ibanez Style Sweeper and Slap?

Sign in to disble this ad
My question is about the Ibanez style sweeper pot featured on the SR300 + series. It has settings for "slap" and "fingerstyle". Now, I'm just learning to slap so I do most of my practicing with the amp off. When I turn the amp on, I find I don't know what to do with the style sweeper. Rolling it to "slap" makes it louder but I don't care for the tone. I realize that my technique (or lack thereof) has a lot to do with it. Ed Friedland has a demo on YouTube and makes it sound great. I'm no where near his level so I would appreciate feedback from any of you who use it. Any advice on technique or settings? Crank it up all the way or leave set on "fingerstyle"? Any help would be appreciated.

All the style sweeper does is scoop your sound. Basically it's like a contour knob right on the bass.

All I can say is to just practice until you're good enough to tell where it sounds best. Or just put it where it sounds best and skip the practice . (Don't actually, practice is important)

You could probably get an answer from someone who has experience with that pot, but literally any problem can be practiced away. Don't like your sound? PRACTICE. Your sound is too good? PRACTICE. You get the point. I'm quite tired. zzzzzzzzz

I play the sr300 everyday for hours..

that knob is really weird im guessing its a Mid knob.. I personally like it on fingerstyle mostly for all types of playing.. You can get really heavy lows and like no mids if you turn it to slap style..

Personally i use it on fingerstyle for everything except when i want that really heavy bass tone i just goto slap tone

My sr505fm has the same switch, which I refer to as 'the fieldy knob'. Basically in slap position it scoops out the mids and in finger position the mids are either flat or slightly boosted. I'm pretty sure I'm right on that.
