Integrating new techniques

Hello everyone,

I've been working on new right hand techniques for a few months, and I'm curious as to how others infused new techniques into their regular playing.

I'm assuming most people start with two fingers in their right hand. So, when people look to Garry Willis or Steve Bailey, Victor Wooten, any of those dudes that use more/other fingers, how do they bring that into their playing?

It's one thing to practice it, I can physically do it. As I'm writing this, I guess I'm realizing that most won't just add it in immediately. Maybe one song at a time? Or based upon need, it helps here so I'll do it here. Should I relearn all my old material using new techniques?

Just curious as to what you all think.

Thanks!
