Intermediate Slap Method?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a basic knowledge of slapping and popping(I can perform the techniques fine enough), but my problem is that I have NO idea what notes to play!

Any books I use to help with this just stick to basic intervals, especially the repetitive octave...

My slapping is fine; I just don't know how to pop anything other than those dang octaves (or other intervals)! Anything I try sounds very dry, with no groove, as I'm just using scale tones. Or sounds like disco, but let's not go there...

And, not that I want to play in the "whackeda whackeda" style, but how do you guys DO that?!?!? How do you get your speed but still make it sound musical?

So, given that I already reasonably know how to do this, can anyone recommend a good method book, a "licks" book, or give me some advice on what notes or rhythms to pop?

Thanx!!!

Ultimate Slap by Stuart Clayton can certainly help you.

That said, you can play any tune in slap. Try to practice tunes you usually play with fingers, and you'll see you can adapt them easily in slap.

All the intervals, chords, triads, arpegios are perfectly usable in slap.

I teach basic slap and pop on the net...

The Whacka Whacka noise you're talking about, is the percussive use of mutes.

If you're past my level of teaching, go onto MarloweDK's site. There is no better resource for intermediate playing on the net:
