I was just playing my bass, just doing the usuall fool around trying to come up with something awesome and i found something but its only on 9 diffrent frets in the same area. i jsut threw in some quater and eighth notes and it sounds amazing. im kinda surprized

i've heard great bass lines with only 3 notes.

Everyday People by Sly and the Family Stone as played by the great Larry Graham has only one note in it...but man does that thing groove!

I'll go one better than even that...

not playing the bass at all can sound fantastic if used well in the orchestration (with a small 'o') of the piece... your bass sounds 10x louder if you blast in for a chorus after having sat out for 8 bars or so

obviously not every song will need this (now the grunge era has passed ) but it can be the best value for effort thing you do on the bass

and 'When Doves Cry' had no bass guitar or synth at all.. and it was a classic
