Jawbox tone/technique help

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to approximate Kim Coletta's tone on the last 2 Jawbox albums for some cover songs, but I can't seem to even get close to that mix of chug and clank. Any pointers on amp settings or technique from the Jawbox fans out there?

sounds to me like a jazz bass with new strings and most importantly maybe a sansamp DI pedal. The scratchy upper-mids can be achieved using the presence knob. This is based on the tone on 'for your own special sweetheart'... I am not sure if this is one of the albums you speak of.

That is indeed one of the albums I speak of, tremendous tone, especially on the remastered re-release version.
I think the only piece of the puzzle I'm missing is the jazz bass. She plays a Schecter Jazz clone live, may have been a Fender jazz on the album, not sure. The closest thing I got is a P-special and it can't quite seem to get close enough.
