This may have been posted before, if it has please direct me to the thread. I'm starting to really enjoy jazz and the sounds of greats such as Coltrane and Davis. However, I can't seem to find a book that has any jazz teachings or instruction. Anyone have any book suggestions? |

Very robust in terms of harmonic and modal theory and historical/stylistic overviews. Very good for my lack of notation reading abilities at the time.

Ed Friedland's books are good for beginners, as are Todd Johnson's "module" books and videos. Todd Coolman's book "The Bottom Line" is a good one. Then there are Ron Carter's and Ray Brown's books. Any of these will get you started. |
