Hey guys I dislocated my right thumb super bad about 4 years ago playing basketball, and still have issues now and again-- (last week! and now!!)...Dam eet. I do a lot of slap bass, and double thumb techniques in an experimental rock band, so I have to hit hard in certain spots. It scares me quite a bit because I'm striving to get better at my techniques, and this really slowed me down at our last gig 2 days ago with the thumb tech's. I usually do improv bass solo's at our gigs, but opted out this last show because of the problem.
The symptoms I have are in the joint at the base(no pun intended) of my thumb - it most recently has gotten more swollen than in the past - that's why I'm writing this post haha. It almost feels like it wants to lock up, almost an involuntary twitch and I can't seem to use it...then it goes away and reoccurs at random times.
For treatment I have been using Epsom salt and icing it after if it gets all puffed out - seems to help it relax. I'm not sure if it's arthritis or pre signs of trigger thumb. If you have any advice at all I would love to hear from you.
My Dad says I should not play as much, but I might lose the rest of my hair if I do! Here is a link of some of my band to show you how I am scroogin up my thumb exactly--->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18whOmGJ1Kw
Thanks guys - I really appreciate it.
