Is this just me?

I never learned how to slap from a teacher (Mainly because my teacher was a fingerstyle nazi) and I do it different than I see most people do it. Is it just me or does anyone else slap WAY DOWN by the bridge? I slap about half an inch above my bridge. Does anyone else do this or have heard of someone doing this? I get a better sound of my bass down there than closer to the neck in my opinion, but I just curious.
