Just stared using 3-fingers

Surprisingly it was an easier adjustment than I thought it'd be. It doesn't feel quite as natural as two, but it's not too weird either.

What made it easy was when I started fretting notes at the same time, it prevented me from only doing triplets.

Still can't quite get the speed of my two finger approach yet, but I'm sure with practice I'll get there. I'm already faster with 3 fingers than I am with a pick (I just really suck at using picks).

Anyone else tried it?

Yeah. I used it exclusively for a while, which helped me get the technique down and smoothed out, but nowadays I play with however few fingers I need - usually 1 or 2. But for complicated/fast passages I use 3, just because it makes string crossing easier and doesn't fatigue my hand as quickly.

Yeah I use 3 fingers. Sometimes I back down to only 2, but 3 really helps with getting more speed with less effort than just using 2. The little finger on that hand seems to be the only finger I don't use.

Welcome to the club.

I switch between using them a lot during a song. For faster not moving around the strings to much, I stick to two because I get a much more consistent tone, and since I'm playing metal its fast break downs (unless I do triplets), because I still can go pretty quick with my 3 fingers without galloping (took me about a year to get it to where it is now). I can get it to about quarter notes at about 130/140 bpm, and then I start to gallop, whereas that doesn't happen with my 2 finger technique, BUT hand fatigue comes on much faster.

I use my three finger tech for slower more complex passages, but what is weird and I'm trying to get out of the habit of, is that I will learn something with two fingers because I really don't have to think about using just two fingers, and then once I kind of get it I switch to three fingers. Depends on how I feel about it, if it is too fast to play with three then I stay with two, but if I am really jumping all over the strings I am going to pikc three, even if it is quick.

I'm trying to incorporate three fingers more and more as I play because I'm still currently faster with two. Hopefully it'll help me nail some fast passages I haven't been able to play with two.

I use three fingers for playing notes in a triplet feel, but I don't think I could use it for 4/4 pieces. If I need to go really fast, I'll move one finger back and forth like a plectrum.

Me too! I started using three fingers recently, when I figured it'd would be terribly, terribly difficult to learn Run To The Hills with two fingers.
