Kienbocks disease

Anyone have it, know if it? I was diagnosed a few months ago with kienbocks disease, it pretty much just makes your wrist really tender, at least in the early stages. I caught it early, was put in a cast for 6 weeks and told that it was gone, but some pain is still there. Any technique adjustment ideas from anyone experiencing similar problems?

Probably the best thing to do is contact your physician and get him/her to suggest a physical therapist who is experianced with the condition. I would probably hold off playing/practicing until it has been resolved.

Yes, it would seem I am going to need some more help with this, but I was wondering if anyone here had similar issues and if any technique changes might minimize the pain.

I have KD myself, in my right wrist. It was triggered by a nasty fall, and it's a real bummer.

The best advice I can give, based on my own experience, is to become more and more aware of how much activity or strain your wrist can take before the symptoms kick in and the pain starts. I have good days and bad days with mine. On good days it's barely noticeable, on bad days I pretty much lose about 80% of the use of one arm. The bad days are usually caused by over exertion, i.e. too much strong physical activity. Just use a bit of common sense - avoid arm wrestling, give your wrist plenty of rest and don't plan on spending all day Saturday sorting the garden out when you've got a gig later. Talking of gigs, be REAL careful when loading and carrying gear. One bad tug on a cab handle to get it off your car's back seat and your keyboard player will be getting your share of the cash for the night.
