Never said people can't have an opinion of his style or tone. Weather it sounds like mud or not...that is what makes Korn sound like they do.

He has the best bass for metal. Only it can get that sound.

Terrible argument with so many holes one can't find a place to start the dissection of it.

Milli Vanilli won a Grammy.

plenty of people out there making all kinds of money, and still cant play for ****. If you step out into the spotlight, dont expect that you wont be critiqued.

Standard gauge 5-string set tuned down to ADGCF, full bass and treble, no mids.

EDIT: bloody hell, I had no idea this thread was 7 years old.

And? 'Milli Vanilli' was everything their fans wanted - great looking guys and catchy music, albeit not THEIR music. The sum total was still a 'hit' with people - it's the lie that did them in, not the package.

Fieldy is like the vast majority of successful players - part of an ensemble within which he does his thing VERY well and with good enough technical proficiency regardless of how much any other bassist hates his 'tone'. He entertains people, kudos to him.

Some of us act as if if/when WE make it our music will be just absolutely the bestest most transcendent thing anybody ever heard and we'll be just phenomenally groundbreaking on bass

I had to laugh when he showed how not to fret the notes on the chorus, because of 'the noise' you get when he just wanted the click.

As the saying goes, one man's noise is another man's, uhh, notes.

I think its cool what Fieldy does. Its not my kind of music, so i rarely listen to it. But I dig that he has a unique sound and it works well in the context that he plays it.

Whether there's any talent involved is irrelevant. The fact that Jaco or anyone else don't play it that way is also irrelevant. It does not make it a less valid art form. The guy is a success and he has a signature sound that's easily recognizable. Haters gonna keep on hatin'
