So I'm getting this occasional rattling noise when I play (mainly on the E string) after hitting a note.
I think its from the placement of my finger on the fret.
I place my finger right up against the fret, yet i still get the rattling buzz. Wish i could post a pic.. but limited connection stuff here.
I'm a total nub to actually playing the bass.
-thanks

If you have fret buzz, it's not at the fret where your finger is resting.

You can try raising the saddle a little, but that may not cure the problem. It could be due to uneven fret heights or neck relief.

I'd suggest taking it to a tech.

I would also check that you press the strings hard enough against the frett board, since you are totally new to the bass. Most probably your hand is not jet strong enough to fret notes properly...

Also, make sure that you are strumming the string so that the string vibrates parallel to the frets, not pushing the string toward the body of the bass so that string vibrates toward and away from the frets.

Mathew is right on. Pay attn to your release. The string will vibrate in a 180 pattern from the release. Most likely you are releasing the string toward the body due to there being nothing to stop your downward release. Pay attn and try to always release in a parallell to the top of the guitar. This should help.
