Its hard to learn online. People do it. Not all of em are good tho. Its always good to have real lessons. It doesnt cost anything to learn online unless you do some stuoid website thing that wants your money. When you learn online and you take the risk of practicing bad habbits. A natural plater wouldnt so much have a problem. Music just comes so easy to some people. If you dont have money for lessons. The best thing to do is look up scales and chords. Start off with basics. Once you learn the basics start making up stuff to the scales you learned. Practice multiple things and combine what you know. Also learn how to read music. Tab is real easy to read. Not everyone posts a good version tho. But yea your better off taking lessons.

I learned playing the bass by tabs and google to find out a little basics about notes.
If you count that as "Learn bass online"

oh yea...You could learn off youtube. Type bass lessons. There videos of scales amd techniques. That stuff really helps. If you have problems with reading the techniques you can look some of them up.

Thumbs up My 2 cents

Hi there!

Well, the way I did it was: I messed arround for a few hours a day with my bass, and by messing arround I mean just trying (sp?) to play basic stuff I had inside my head. IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE I FORGET (I´m in a class): ALWAYS WARM UP without your instrument for 10 minutes or so and STRECH. If your interested in knowing my warmup routine, just ask and I´ll post it, I´m in a bit of an hurry now.

Also: The way I did it, I started using my four finger of my fretting hand since I began playing, and man, I think that is the most rewarding thing to do. Some people argue about it, but if you do warm up and strech before starting and do regular pauses during your pratice session, it´s probable that you don´t have any problem with your fretting hand. I´ve been playing that way for four years (so little!) and I never had troubles with my hands, my brother always made me warm up and strech before I played when I started (he´s a sxophonist with a passion for guitar and bass).

I sorry, but I´m in a hurry, I will do an extessive post when I finish my classes. Ho, and sing me the f***ing Happy BirthDay!!!!!!!!!

Latter!

I'm playing for a year now , learned everything from TalkBass, YouTube and Google.

You just need to learn the basics of bass (Proper finger picking, proper left hand technique, basics of the bass's purpose in a band), then even lesson made for guitar can be quite rewarding on the bass. I especially like http://www.justinguitar.com/ -- He's teaching scales and chords really well.

If you want private lessons via the internet check out Cliff Engel of the IIB. His rate is real good and has lots of good materials. You get far more than would from a one-on-one lesson for less money.
