Left hand numbness...

Sign in to disble this ad
The weirdest thing... mostly on my left hand.. very rarely on the right.. but the left hand will go numb at the tip of the middle finger usually.. and sometimes the 1 & 3 as well.. but it is always more pronounced on the middle finger.. I went to see a doctor about it.. but of course when I went it didn't do it.. he said it could be carpal tunnel.. but I can't help but think this is a circulation issue. I know I have arthritis in the right hand.. He ruled out some kind of nerve damage.. the really odd thing is that the finger turns yellow from the last digit to the tip.. as if there was no blood in it at all.. and I can feel a throbbing in the finger.. not painful but just a throbbing.. When it gets really bad as I said it is the 3 fingers, but more often than not iti s just the one middle. The length of time varies.. it can be for a few minutes or an hour.. but it is crazy because fretting becomes weird... When the feeling comes back the finger turns red again... Anybody else have this?

The yellowing you have is a Jaundice condition, but its source is not known. Jaundice is usually associated with the liver and will show up, as a rule, in the eyes first.

Another jaundice look alike is is carotenemia, which people get if they eat a very large amount of yellow vegetables or drink large quantities of vegetable juice. How this could show in you fingers i have no idea, but it may be a factor relating to the real problem.

Nerve damage i would not rule out, but maybe look else where. If it is just the left( i assume the fretting hand) then i would look along that whole line from the neck through the shoulder, upper arm, forearm, wrists and fingers.

As you have an arthritis condition, (there are many) it maybe a circulation problem(joint swelling restricting blood flow) and the lack of red blood cells causes the numbness and the yellowing, again the yellowing a sympathetic symptom from another seemingly unrelated problem with fingers, but related to blood.

I would get a second opinion or even a third if you think it nessesary. Also talk to arthritus help groups, and find out if there is any documented evidence related to the condition.

Have you had a full physical exam recently? This seems like a symptom of something else.

I'm with Fergie on getting a second opinion.
