Question Left Hand Slap Question

Sign in to disble this ad
OK. In the slap bass book I bought, LHS was a big part in it, it seemed to be in every riff. When playing an open note then left hand slapping, it was no problem. But there were fretted notes followed by a left hand slap. How do you do this effectively? Is it just laying your hand down to stop the note from ringing out or is it an actual slap on the fretboard. It's hard to explain what I'm talking about, I hope I'm explaining it ok.

That's pretty much how I do it.

I just slap the fretboard with my fingers.

some people grip the fret board, wrapping their thumb around and do that.

I don't know...I'd say it's all about being quick.

Fret a note with the index finger, slap, and then hit the strings with the other three fingers.
Keep the fingers slightly curved to match the fingerboard radius, so you hit all, or at least several, strings at once for volume. You should use at least two fingers to avoid unwanted harmonics.

Wow.. errmmm huh... that was really easy. It turns out I was pretty much doing it right.

Well it helps to know that I'm doing something right.
