legato "sweeps" with taps added in.

Sign in to disble this ad
i'm just looking for tips on how to speed up my "sweeps" (picked i-m-r-p-i and then index to rake back down). i've been practicing consistently and don't seem to be building speed. i also want to add some tapping parts into it. any tips on advanced tapping and how to incorporate it into sweeps, as well as sweep speed? i've been checking out the tech. death thread but was looking for some alternate opinions.

thanks
evan

Look up Troy Tipton from Zero Hour online (do a google search). He does that kind of thing a lot and I believe he even has a video out.

begin VERY slowly, always practice them with a metronome, out of curiosity, why do you neither sweep with a pick, or sweep down with thumb and up with index? I have spent time trying all different ways and for me found pick to be the cleanest.

wow. way too much hehe *blush* . But a qucik tour won`t hurt. I use all four fingers on the right hand to get the attack I like. Not too big a fan of the Adam Nitti method, cause I think it sounds a bit to soft and not pointing each note out from eachother. It`s kinda the Gary Willis concept with one finger per string from the pinky and up. Usually I do two notes on the E string and go up, do legato`s in between if necessary and then rake back up with my second finger. So the pattern is 1-4-3-2-1 2--->, depending on the chords I`m dealing with. This might be a better example, just playing random stuff trying to show off how the right hand works with the left. plus there`s some tapping stuff incorporated there, so it`s kinda getting back on topic as well :P

hi

hi erlend !
nice video of yours...;but not sweeping anyway;;;notes are played one after the other...the main concept for sweeping is to "sweep" the notes of the arpeggios (or triads)....
cool anyway...
cheers !
