Let's talk about Anthony Jackson's technique

I'm fairly new to Anthony Jackson, but he is quickly becoming one of my favorite bassists. His playing has so much taste and he never overplays anything, in my opinion. Can anyone explain to me though how he does his whole right hand muting technique? It seems to be his signature technique, though I have seen him stray from it at times, especially for soloing.

When he's doing Afro-Cuban bass he mutes with the palm of his picking hand. You can see it here:

Anthony is a very detail oriented person. Almost anything he does is after much thought and reflection.

I thought you were going to talk about his left hand... I know his bass is huge but this doesn't seem very healthy (0:27):

He is an amazing musician though. His muting seems to be basic palm muting. He doesn't use it as much as you suggest I think, though he uses it regularly.

I certainly wouldn't think of Anthony Jackson's signature technique as palm muting. He does use that technique sometimes, especially on latin music. I would be very had pressed to think of a player who had more refined playing technique than Anthony. The word that comes to mind is precision. Every single note he plays is perfect - attack, volume, duration; where he plucks the string with his RH, his touch, everything - precision.

He is one of the most thoughtful bassists out there. Not to mention the many years he spend working with Fodera to develop an instrument to realize his sound. That in and of itself is interesting, because you can hear his voice even on his old Fender, but then on #10 it is there in its full glory.

Check out the Lee Ritenour DVD Overtime, there is a spot on that DVD (I can't remember the tune), where he plays a line going down the neck that is holy crap fast.

Precise and thought through is what I'd say as well.
In terms of sound I think he certainly often didn't sound worse when he used the fender.
