Ok, so I just got a new camera, and figured "HEY, why not make a video of myself playing?" So I did.

Since I don't have a bass teacher, and really don't have the time for scheduled lessons, I'm turning to the talkbass community for criticism.

It's just me playing pretty much the same thing over and over again with a little variation. Also, it's a little out of sync, but you can tell what's suppose to sound when if you look at my fingers. Also there's a bit of distortion that shouldn't be there, my guess is it's because of the crappy mic on the camera or the drums rattling while I play.

So there it is. Please take a look and let me know if there's anything you guys think I need to work on, and what. Advice/comments on tone, technique, and anything I'm doing that could lead to problems down the road would be appreciated.

Video isn't uplaoded yet.

BTW I'd recommend google's video program. works way faster for uploads.

Tone is good, better than most bass sounds on YouTube. How long have you owned the 5 string? It would have been interesting (IMHO) to have put a lower dominate (5) note before the first note of the phrase, every now and then to give a little variety to the pattern.

Nice job.

Thanks, I really like my tone, and I think it's one I'm gonna be sticking with for a long time. Sounds great to me no matter what kind of music I play. Not the best for some maybe, but still good.

Anyways, I've had the 5 string for maybe a month now, and since all but the b string are flatwound, it tends to stick out like a sore thumb when I hit it. Hell, the only time I really use it is when I'm playing with guitarists that are in dropped tuning. Once I get a new string for it though, I'll probably be using it much more.

Great funky sound. However you may want to try no looking at your fingers so hard. They will stay there.
