that low tuned QOTSA bass sound

well.. i know that on the albums sounds of bass and bassplayers changed,
...but it seems that it goes down to low c very often.
this sound (obvioualy a pushed tube amp) differs from the loose sound of a low B string a 5er has; at least from my experience.
I´ve got a P-bass and as far as i know Nick olivieri used one...
so how can i get close? Useing a 5er set and tune up a 1/2 step?

Tune everything down a step, and then drop the E to C.

EDIT: That's drop C. Or leave the rest of the strings in normal tuning and drop the E to C. Or some weird half step configuration if you want.

easy solution, tune down

It sounds to me like your B string just sucks, mine never sounds loose. Try some different strings.

Whenever I need low C (which is rare), I tune the bass CGCF and be done with it. But thats on a 4.

+1, one of my basses is always in that tuning for thrash metal. Low and heavy.
