What is he doing with the tuning keys?

I'm not usually a fan of virtuoso playing, but that was a beautiful song.

AH Manring is awesome. Yeah he's pretty popular he has his own section of the forums.
He's one of Jaco students right?

It was indeed beautiful... yet still amazing in terms of technique.

Michaels is a monster. I have always wanted to play with a bass with "Hipshot Hyper Bridge" but way to confusing for me.

Manring plays the Zon Hyperbass. (This I knew.) It has 4 detuning heads. What you see him doing is changing the root notes of each of the strings using these heads.

He was a student of Peter Princiotto and studied at Berklee. (This I didn't know.)

Seems like a real nice guy. His playing is not only sound in terms of technique, but his sense of melody propels him to the fore among top bassists IMO.

That's a really pretty tune. I enjoy watching him do what he does. I have his most recent solo effort. I enjoy it in small doses. Neat stuff. It give you and idea of what is possible with out instrument. Unless you Mr. Manring, who says he has only scratched the surface of what is possible.

Hipshots all the way around, he's got the alternate tuning end cornered. The neck in not longer, it's a 34" scale w/ a long fingerboard. Michael has been out there for a long time and considered
"a master of the fretless bass without rival." Though that will be subjective in others eyes, the fact remains that the man is a beast!
