Matt Garrison technique story.

I was at my bass lesson last night, and I had a substitute teacher who I had before and knew was a very good player. I asked him if he knew about the "Matt Garrison Technique" and he said "well actually, Matt Garrison is my teacher, I take lessons from him". I was shocked, and also got a pretty good lesson on the technique (not that there's much to it except practice). Anyone else have a similar story?

Uh . . . cool story?

Matt's a cool guy though, I've met him a couple times. He taught a couple friends of mine, but I hear he likes to focus on his own technique, and I just can't be bothered with it. I took from Oscar Stagnaro instead.

Matt is an amazing musician, great teacher and one of the nicest guys you could meet. He doesn't really concentrate on "his" technique unless you want to....Matt has taught me many things about bass playing and music in general that have improved my playing and my understanding of music immensely. If you ever have an opportunity to study with Matt take advantage of it!

Sounds like you had a very unique oppertunity there! Matt is phenomenal himself, so I can imagine a guy who has been taught by him to have his wits about him bass-wise!

I wanted lessons in the 4 finger picking thing I'd need to go to London to meet Mike Flynn! Don't neglect to check out the extensive thread stickied in this forum in which Bryan R. Tyler discusses a lot of useful info about the technique and so on.
