some folks use the first or 2nd exclusively ....Ed Friedland teaches to use the 1st finger popping the D string and the 2nd finger popping the G string ....

i'm a slacker ....i use my 2nd finger for all!

For a double pop, use 1 then 2

I usually use my middle finger, but sometimes I use my pointer finger. I think it's all more about what's more comfortable for you. There is no set way you have to play your bass, so just play the way that feels right for you and enjoy

There are no rules. Use whichever finger/fingers that feels natural to you.

I keep agreeing with you TBAR...

I actually use my index, middle or ring finger for popping, depending on the situation.

For example, you may have to move your hand less if you use your ring finger to pop while playing a fast line that requires low E slapping followed by high G popping.

I keep almost typing "pooping"...
