I tried using my teeth one time. It sucked, but then again, im not hendrix

Fingers for me tho. Reason: Just cus.

Sound I get: PHAT. If i emphisize the mids and get some clank going on (easy w/ my low action) I can sorta get a pick type sound, albeit heavyer imo.

Fingers.
Cos i started learning that way, and because i like the sound better.
I can play some stuff with pick too, but i'm not that fond of the sound.

I'm dumb. I meant to hit all of the above but I hit plectrum instead. So minus 1 for plectrum.

Do whatever the song needs....or whatever you feel like.....
Or whatever the band will let you get away with.

And sometimes.......smack the strings with a drumstick and use a beer bottle as a slide and tell everyone to mind their own biz because it sounds awesome and you like it..

Actually I voted all of the above.

Whatever works for the song

Not gonna do the teeth thing though......too many years of orthodontics to mess those up

Fingers 80% of the time. On the hardcore stuff I use a pick, and on the funk/disco stuff, I slap/pop.

My first two fingers 98 percent of the time. I'm learning to slap currently.

Most of the stuff I play is finger style. I slap or use a pick as needed.

EDIT: 2 peeps use their teeth! Its pretty split between fingers and all of the above. Sorta what I figured, tho i expected more pick votes.

Picking when I play with my band. Mostly for the chugs which I am not so good at with fingers, but also for the clarity of tone.

I'll occasionally finger if I'm just playing around.

(I voted plectrum)

(And since JimmyM recalled his vote, I'm the only one )

Just my fingers. I can't seem to slap correctly and the other methods seem complicated.

Huh. Interesting results. It would seem that finger players ONLY use their fingers (purists? traditionalists?) while the rest of us, who use a pick or slap techniques sometimes, use all techniques. Or maybe we're just embarrassed to be pick players on TB :P

Fingers 90%
Slap 9%
Pick 1%

IMHO the BASS has more punch, fullness and overall better sound quality. Calluses and just the right nail length helps me get a sound I enjoy. I slap when The Spirit moves me. Sometimes on 1/8th note ride outs it just drives a little more aggressively. To use a pick is only on very rare occaisions. Sometimes you just gotta do what fits within the "production"....

Don't feel alone. After some serious experimenting yesturday I find I'm faster and more intuitive with a pick. Plus I like the more powerfull midrange I get. Call me a failed guitarist or whatnot, but I plan on stickin' to what works really well for me.

-1 fingers, +1 Pick
