middle finger joint issue(new)

Sign in to disble this ad
ok about a week ago my middle finger/right hand sort of locked up when strait, just a minor pop/crackle when i bent it,it's gotten worse so that like last night after sitting here and having to bend it(and it popping),,i was afraid to straighten it out

it's like the joint is worn out, heaven forbid what next will fail on my old body!,,i need that finger darn it!,,my main method is`finger style'(yes i'm rt handed in case there's any question to clarify)

so!,any sort of liniment, salve,or wine i can soak it in?,,this morning the thing was actually aching and so i HAD to make a post here.

i've worked with my hands all my life when i straighten my fingers out and look down `em they look twisted, obviously that won't change,i do use thumb style but not for rock, maybe soak it in a tub of hemorhoid cream

Got to agree with this, a forum is no place for this type of problem, because it has serious developments already. Plus with what you say about working with your hands all your life, bass playing may not be the issue, but it just highlights it...see a Doctor.

Yes, get medical attention, which may send you to occupational therapy. I have a similar problem in the tip joint of my right index finger, which was incredibly painful at the outset. I saw a hand specialist and went to occupational therapy for a few weeks, which helped immensely. It's still there, but not nearly as bad as it was. Due to this issue, I'm now a pick player almost exclusively.

Don't mess around trying to treat it yourself. See the doc. You don't want to let it go on only to find that it's something that could get worse by waiting. There are ailments you could never dream of on your own. For instance, my right index finger once swelled up around the first joint. I thought I had made it sore from using some pliers the day before. But, it even turned red, and I could hardly touch it because of the pain. Well, the doc said it was an inflamation of the synovium that lines the joints. Of course, when I asked what causes it, he didn't have a good answer, as if no one really knows. But, the point is, it could've been cancer or something. At least I was relieved to know something. I took anti-inflamatory drugs for a week or so and it went away.

Get yer butt to the doc. And let ue know what they say. Good luck, pal.

I have to agree - seek medical help.

Good luck.

First reaction to any kind of injury post is, "definitely see a doctor." While I don't think it's an entirely bad idea (they can sometimes offer some useful information, and fix broken bones), I say take anything a doctor tells you with a grain of salt, do your own research, and learn to listen to what your body tells you. There are countless times that had I listened to what the doctor told me I'd be in serious crap. I've had finger joint problems, throat problems, neck problems... been misdiagnosed, been told things that scared the crap out of me (basically concerning arthritis and how bleak my future would be if I didn't listen to them), and well... 20 years later I'm totally fine, not having listended to what any of the doctors told me. They get less than 15 minutes to see you and come up with something for what you've got. They put bandaids on things when there are cures, and quite often they mask or treat your pain while doing nothing to truly help you heal yourself.

And of course there are always the rare awesome doctors who really care and want to make you healthy. But I've yet to meet one.

thank you!

well, the update is,it's been better,,no idea if it's the weather,a passing cold symtom but she's barely`locked up' and actually it's not a seizure lock up,i CAN bend it it's like an old worn out joint that is past`spec' like a drag link on an old car,one day she steers fine the next day there's a `snag' when turning the wheel..

i measured the joint(s) today my rt one is 3 MM wider than the lft.

as for my doctor we're on the outs due to my blood pressure issue and his`i've done it this way for 30 years!' aproach to medicine.

i won't ramble(to much) but i will say this=self employment with no insurer to bill they(he) sux and i and my whole family has been his customer and paid the bills for=30 years!,i've spent some time with`health care professionals' due to my flyfishing/guiding and boy!,,it seems like it's all about the money not;this is what i chose to do for a living=helping people,,,

i've lost faith in it( i could extrapolate a bunch more but i'm telling you from experience if you don't have an insurance company to bill you're a second class citizen to many that i've spent a day with sipping 17 YO scotch, smoking cubans and casting 700 dollar Spey flyrods with=CRAZY SH--!) you come away with a whole new outlook on `doctors'

ok thanks. i'll quit..i have 4 fingers left i'll make do but please don't call my`doctor'(he can kiss my bass!) peace ya'll

I have an issue with my fretting pinky, I injured it spinning a staff almost two years ago, and it has yet to fully heal. I have learned to deal with it, however, and have to very careful not to bend it 'sideways' at all, otherwise it gets quite painful. Otherwise I can play the bass a lot and not hurt it, as long as my pressure is straight down (as it should be anyhow).

My joint is the same way, too, it is a couple mm bigger than on my other hand. I wonder if it will always be that way now!
