Mike Richmond's Modern Walking Bass Technique
I bought this book about 13 years ago while I was on a trip in Wichita Ks. Never really could get into it.
Recently I grabbed it off the shelf and - with some hard work and following the directions - wow. I feel very confident moving up and down the neck and using open strings - just like an upright player. Positions aren't notated, so I found it very useful to go through and mark the most logical position sequence as if I was playing upright using a 3 finger approach. Then I modified it to 4 fingered electric style.
I think the biggest benefit I got out of the book was being able to look at neck as being a continuum of notes up and down the neck, not just across.
Any way..its a darn fine book. Definitely worth reading it if you can find a copy.
There's nothing like a good method book to pick up your playing & fretboard knowledge.
