Missing string when playing fingerstyle

For some reason ive developed a bad habit when playing fingerstyle and i pluck a string i miss the string below it???

I dont know how this happenning... I may be plucking the string too far underneath? and not ontop of the string


Any thoughts?

sorry, not understanding what you mean. however, getting too far under the string is a common problem at first. it's better imho to just play on top of the string and give it more of a glancing blow instead of a monster dig under it.

do you mean that you over shoot the D string that you would expect to come to rest on after plucking the G string....ie; below in pitch,but above in location....if that were that case i'd guess you were pulling outward on the string.....there are lots of good video lessons on youtube regarding proper plucking methods

I started my music journey on the banjo - lot of finger picking on the banjo. I found that I too missed strings, I think it's just the nature of the beast and will go away with practice.

If not slow down and analyze what you are doing wrong. When something is not working if we slow down and analyze what we are doing that is causing the problem - fix it - then speed back up, things tend to take care of themselves.
