More slapping problems

Okay after many futile attempts at trying to learn to slap I am getting it. I can play the Higher ground riff pretty good now (Big thing for me). How ever when i try to just jam and slap i have problems with slapping the E and than moving down to slapping the A string. I can slap the A string (not as well) but i also end up making noise on my E string. I slap with my thumb at a downward angle. Not horizontal like Marcus Miller. Any advice?

Try moving your thumb horizontally like Marcus Miller?

Personally, I slap both ways. And I also used to have the same problem. You can mute the E-string either with the palm of your slapping hand or with your fretting hand thumb, just reach it around the neck.

I COULD do that that but i would have to start learning slap all over again if i did. I've tried to do the Marcus Miller style and cannot at all. I'll try to palm muting though

Practice slower and concentrate more on individual notes. In time, it becomes natural enough to go faster.
