I thought it would be cool to compile a list of songs that feature bass parts that challenge your stamina and speed
The list begins
Iron Maiden-Caught Somewhere in Time
Iron Maiden - Losfer Words (Big Orra):
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Gotta Match? - Chick Corea
Freedom Jazz Dance (melody)
Donna Lee (melody)
Not Ethiopia - Brecker Brothers (melody)
Teen Town - Jaco
Havona - Jaco
Endangered Species - Wayne Shorter
Cannibal Corpse- Hammer Smashed Face
Marcus miller-what is hip (not slapped)
Red hot chili peppers: parallel universe (not picked)
Alain Caron: Donna Lee (not slapped)
Jeff Berlin's "Bach": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2DcXWb0WwY
Reggie Young's insane intro on "Giant Steps": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdG8EYETvUo
Anthony Jackson on Steve Khan's "The Suitcase": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJXHsbT91pg
John Patitucci on "Got A Match" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4IMMaF7nPI
It would be great to find some other gems that set right hand technique benchmarks.

I have a few warm-up tunes but for stretching and strength in the first 5 frets for the left hand and string-crossing independence for the right, Bach's Cello Suite No1 in standard tuning not Cello. http://www.cliffengel.com/bass_lesso...olo_bass/bach/ |

Also, for insane speed and string skipping, there's the chorus of "Right on Time"
I know Flea isn't as revered on these forums as he is elsewhere on the 'net, but it's hard to deny that many of his parts require a LOT of strength to play as fast and consistently as he does. |

Here are my top three favorites for warming up:
Marcus miller-what is hip (not slapped)
Red hot chili peppers: parallel universe (not picked)

Chameleon is like that, also a Diggable Planets tune called "Pacifics" that we sometimes do. There's nothing challenging about the lick, but playing it over and over and over and over again makes my left hand want to fall off of my arm. |

pretty fast song, reasonably hard to get down. I can slap it faster and smoother than i can finger it. Thats probably because i slap too much

Iron Maiden - Losfer Words (Big Orra): Uptempo Iron Maiden goodness
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner: 13 minutes of alternating easy passages and ridiculous riffing.
Also, check out Stranglehold by Ted Nugent. Stamina, but basically playing the exact same passage over and over and over and over and over...
