Most Unique Scale or Tuning?

Sign in to disble this ad
A friend came over with an electric Sitar. It's tuning was fairly unique to my ear as well as the scales. Sitars have (generally 8 strings tuned F, C, G, C, G, C, C, & last is a sympathetic tuning to one of the others.)
Koto (Japanese) tuning is something I know very little about but they are tuned alike yet alter due to tension & size. I am beginning to really enjoy different country's musical style.
What is the most unique scales or tuning you have ever heard (& could any be achieved through a Bass or other European instrument?

Brian Gibson has some pretty hectic tuning going on..

Quote:
Gibson plays his bass guitar tuned to cello standard tuning, in intervals of fifths (C G D A), using a banjo string for the high A. He used this four-string setup for several years, but has recently been seen using a five-string setup, tuned to C G D A E, with banjo strings for the A and E.
