Sign in to disble this ad
one of the bands i play with wants to cover mr big! now i have never tapped much besides this one little simple chord thing

the band has given me a choice between
addicted to that rush (lot of tapping, cant do this one)
daddy brother little boy lover ( i think this the one am gonna go for)
temperamental (i dont like it much)

but anyway i got interested in his technique so anyone's got any hints and ideas about playing fast like him? i have his instructional video so am gonna look into it but it doesnt explain the basics of his tapping style. any help guys?

and am gonna go searching for threads but since i have typed this out, i'd post this!

yeah , and if your guitarist is really a sticker for original tones you need the same type drill that they use .... my band does poundcake (vh) and my guitard was using a newer dewalt and not an older makita and it didnt sound anywhere near the same ... just a thought to think on and laugh about ... sorry for the hijack ...

LOL, but would Lithium or nim-hydrate be a factor, or would ni-cad have been the battery of the time to get the authentic tone

The thing that will REALLY blow your mind when covering Billy Sheehan is that a lot of what he does is NOT tapping. A good bit of it is PLUCKING EVERY NOTE using 3 fingers on his right hand. Wrap your head around that one time.

I have a tapping lesson that might help you a bit here, because you can speed it up or slow it down as you wish:

http://learnbass.net/wordpress/2009/...-introduction/

Beneath that is another tapping exercise that might interest you.

Once you get the technique down, you can move onto different ways of approaching the technique...

Hope it helps in some way.

Beat me to it.
+ 1 to two fingers' comment. Billy has probably the sickest right hand technique of any 'rock' player on the planet. There are plenty of three (or more) finger gunslingers around, but in his style, Billy is the man, no doubt. I don't even like his music and I STILL say he's the man.
