Yeah this song is awesome to play, the first part I was able to play just fine... but then I started to fumble... so I took it slow then eventually it became more smooth and I added some speed. |

For the album it would be a pick to get the attack the line has.
I play it with my fingers and don't got past the 8th fret, alternating strings. I find it has more clarity and attack that way... bit trickier though, but that's the way I figured it out from the CD. |

A string part, then E string, using a bit of the A string as well, then D string part, then repeat of A part = main riff! |

good luck!

i have no idea what sort of equipment is used on the recordings, wasn't that worried about it. I do like the sound he gets though.
it's a sweet line, in any case. |

and just the bass track
i think new born is harder song to play though.
Interesting aside, i've worked in the studio they recorded that album in.

| | | | Many of you mention that endurance is needed to play this song.
If that is the case, I wonder how this dude performs this song live. I am curious if he sticks to his original line or does something more abridged for the sake of the show?
I'm not really into pop. But this looks like an interesting finger excercise. I'll look into it. |

as far as playing it goes, i agree about playing each section on the one string except for the latter half of the E bit - so instead of going up to the 15th and 17th frets on the E, i hop back and forth to the 10th and 12th frets on the A.
if that makes sense. you have to watch for sloppiness but it works great... |

| | | Just heard it. It sounds like a fun line but it should be easy to do. I'm at work right now and with no bass
Double timing this would be a challenge for the next few months though. |

| | | | For those that already have this down, look up the one live version of Vulcan Worlds by Return to Forever floating around youtube.
That will keep you occupied for a while. It's not so much the tempo that's hard to nail, but trying to imitate that guy's technique. There is alot to chew on in there. |

as for the way to play it, fingers 100%, no need to go beyond frets 7-12
for the "E Riff" (2nd part of main riff) use A String for the G and A Notes
Use all four fretting fingers to, helps a lot to get the speed.
Apart from that just keep working on it, play with a metronome thats important to, will find it a lot easier when you move to band practie as its easy to play the open notes to quickly and lose time i find. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
