| Musicals to Band Covers

Wasn't sure if this is the right forum, but it seem sthe nearest to my query.
Was sitting with the band last night scratching our heads - guess a bit of communal laziness set in. Anyway, we decided we'd try work out some cover or other. Next question - which one?
I suggested in a half hearted way we should try do a cover of some song from a musical. Out guitarist knew the guitar bit of the openingsong for "Jesus Christ Superstar" and out singer, incredibally, knew the words!!
In any case, it sounded great, warts and all..... We decided we might raid our CD collections to see if we can come up with any more of these musical songs a 4 piece might be able to cover.
Has anyone ever done this? I'm not a musical conneseur but what are musical basslines generally like? I realise that most of these bassline are probably written for orchestral double basses, and are probably different style-wise to your average blues-rock stryle. Any ideas? suggestions?
(Apparently Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock musical, and not to take that as a standard "musical" format per se) |
